Antique Chinese Blue Silk Damask Weave Embroidered Longpao Dragon RobeThis antique Chinese blue silk brocade damask weave embroidered Longpao dragon robe dates from the late 19th century during the Qing Dynasty. It is made of a bright royal blue color silk damask weave brocade fabric with woven designs of cranes, fish, endless knot, canopy, conch shell, vase, umbrella, wheel, lotus flower the Eight Auspicious Symbols of Buddhism, precious objects symbols of good fortune. There are blue and white raised padded satin stitch hand embroidered dragons. A variety of "long" five clawed dragons are embroidered through out including 10 roundels medallions with both single front facing and a par of dragons placed together inside which symbolize eternity, Yin and the Yang, also two dragons hidden inside the bottom front flap opening. This magnificent Manchu womens imperial semiformal court robe Longpao coat is loose fitting, a long floor length, with side fastening knotted toggle closures, exaggerated long full sleeves and is fully lined in a light blue silk damask weave fabric with a decorative pattern woven inside. The robe measures 51 inches long, with a 60 inch chest, 60 inch waist and 26 inch long sleeve. It is in fair as-is condition with some missing frayed holes stains on the silk lining inside, a frayed repair along one shoulder and side neck which also has a few tiny frayed holes and a stain on the bottom back hem which has a frayed shattered silk area (see close-ups). This is truly a rare and wonderful piece of antique Chinese wearable art!
