Antique Chinese Silk Embroidered Year of the Horse Medallion Roundel Robe Trim
This antique Chinese silk embroidered year of the horse medallion roundel robe trim dates from 1900. It is made of a pale pink pastel color silk fabric background, with colorful raised padded satin stitch hand embroidery work outlined in gold thread couching work with a large oddly misshapenly posed brown horse in the center. The year of the horse is the seventh in the 12 year cycle of the Chinese zodiac sign, which symbolizes enthusiasm and energy. This beautifully embroidered textile trim remnant has a roundel medallion shape and came off perhaps an antique Manchu robe. It has been recently professionally matted onto a newer silk damask weave patterned fabric matting with a woven Xi Chinese character for joy, butterfly border trim edging and has a silk backing with a "Peking China" paper label on back and is suitable, ready for framing. The textile measures 16 inches wide. It is in excellent condition. This is truly a wonderful one of a kind piece of antique Chinese textile embroidery art!
